Trick or Treat

This is the most trick or treaters I have ever had! Jockeys, Batmen, Spidermen, Michael Phelps, a Princess, a Cowboy/Pirate and much more! I am hoping all of the candy will be gone so I won't be tempted to eat it!

The Cutest Skunk I have Ever Seen

My brother, Raven and Brenna stopped by for some Trick or Treating this evening. Then we went over to Bryan and Lindsay's house for some more. It was great to see Miss B dressed as the cutest skunk I have ever seen! She is just learning to walk, so the costume made that a bit harder!

I voted! Last Day of Training & Bangs

Today was a packed day. I got up early to try to get some important documents off of my computer that continued to shut down every 7 minutes. Yes, the same computer that is only 3 weeks old. I drove up to Nebraska Furniture Mart and returned it. While doing the return, I was seriously considering going with an Apple, but then decided against it. I kept my Toshiba and got $160 back because it was on sale again! Nice!
I then headed up to Leavenworth to vote! It was amazing how many people were somewhat clueless. It took me less than 90 seconds to vote, and some people were acting like the touch screen voting was the hardest thing they have ever had to do in their life. Also, the question that was asked was, is this your first time to vote in Leavenworth County? The woman in front of me answered the question, "Yes, because last time I voted in Lansing." For those of you not familiar with the LVC, Lansing is in Leavenworth County. As I walked out of the courthouse, I was attacked by ladybugs. Seriously, my jeans were covered with about 10 ladybugs, lucky? Maybe!
I stopped my parent's house and saw Lucy, the sweetest yellow lab in the world! I also decided to cut bangs, and my mom helped me even them out. Something a little new for my last 30 days of being 26.
Tonight was my last night of training at work. Tomorrow I have to go and take the server test, and then I will be on my own! I think I will be working all day Saturday, for the KSU v. KU game and the Nebraska v. OU game! Big Money, I hope!

"You has nice teeth"

Yes, the title is a direct quote from one of my tables this evening. A group of 3 men with gold teeth came in, wearing oversized jeans, jerseys and leather sporting jackets. They were very nice, all ate hot wings and drank Stella Artois, which I thought was an interesting choice of beverage. Anyway, as I mentioned each of them had a nice set of gold teeth or grill. I said thank you when they told me that I had nice teeth. But my question is....should I have returned the compliment even though gold teeth are not really my thing? Remember, I am still not getting tips until I am finished training. A thought to ponder...
All in all, the day went well. I think I am ready to go on my own, but I have to work one more shift as an expo person in the kitchen then I will be set free.
As some of you may know, I enjoy making lists. Well, I have decided I am going to make a list of things I would like to accomplish before my 27th birthday on November 30th, and then a list of things I would like to accomplish before my Golden Birthday in 2011. I think this will start in my next post.
Also, my day started with a pumpkin bagel and cream cheese again today. I will take a break from it tomorrow, but I discussed with my roomie MG, that we need to buy a box of them and freeze them, especially since they are a limited time item.
One more thing, I doubt I dressing up for Halloween, so I have no costume contest to win with my brilliant costume idea, but I would like someone to use it, win and then split their winnings with me. All you need is:
A girl/guy couple wearing normal clothes
3 girl baby dolls
3 boy baby dolls
2 older girl dolls
Pin them to you, or get a large stroller or wagon for all of them to ride in and you could be Jon and Kate Plus 8. Brilliant, I know. Thank me later.
Oh, but if you are going to be Kate, you have to be a raving lunatic and yell at Jon and constantly roll your eyes all night.

810 from 10-8

I am home from my first day on the job at 810Zone. I went in at 10 a.m. and trained with another server until 230, then took a two hour break and went back at 430 til 8ish. I was very lucky that when I was walking to my car in between shifts, my mom called and was on the Plaza heading to St. Lukes to see her friend that is in the hospital for a week of intense chemo. She picked me up and I rode with her to see her friend. It was great to see her, and she looks great, much better than last time. Then, I talked my mom into going to Blanc Burger where I got an Inside Out Burger and a chocolate malt! If you have not been to Blanc Burger, you definitely need to go. All in all, it was a great break.

This evening's shift went well. I took the majority of tables on my own and no real issues. Lots of men, lots of drinking, I think I will be able to handle it. I am anxious to be finished training so I can actually keep the tips.

On a side note, I started my day at Einstein Brothers, which happens to be on my way to work. SD has told me how great the pumpkin bagel and the pumpkin cream cheese is. It did not disappoint! Try it!

I am heading to bed. Not only am I exhausted, but I am also gearing up for the weekend when we will all lose an hour of sleep due to Daylight Savings Time!

Cheese and Chocolate & Meatloaf

Today was a busy day. I had my orientation, then an appt at 4 til 5, then dinner with the fam in LV at 545 and then I was supposed to have a volleyball game followed by dessert with the girls at Melting Pot. It happened mostly like that, except for the exercise..that did not happen. I got a call as I finished dinner that the team we were playing was forfeiting, but our team was still going to have practice. Hmmm, I skipped the practice. Instead, I ate some meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy and peas, then headed back to KC, changed my clothes and waiting for SG1, to pick up MG and I. We then headed down towards the Plaza and picked up SG2 and met ES at Melting Pot for Ladies Night. What? Did you say you are not familiar with ladies night? It's a wonderful invention, two glasses of wine or cosmos, all you can eat cheese and chocolate for $22. We had the Wisconsin trio and the spinach and artichoke cheese, and wine and each of us had a chocolate martini. I will say that we sent the martinis back because they did not have the chocolate dripping around the edge (only reason we ordered them), but the waiter brought them back properly garnished!

Tomorrow is my first full day at work. I am going in to train/shadow with a current server. I will be working from 10-close. Close is at 11:30, but I hope to God I don't have to stay that long!

Orientation

I am now finished with my orientation at the restaurant where I work, it went well and only took about 20 minutes. The usual, copying my social security card, drivers license and filling out paperwork. I have two handbooks I have to study in order to be ready for the test on Friday! I will be working a double shift tomorrow and Wednesday, as a trainee, so no tips.

Next up, my volleyball game, and hopefully making it to the Melting Pot in time for dessert with the girls!

I wore the Skechers to orientation, I did not slip or fall, so the no slip bottoms must work!

HeatDish

I apologize for the second post today, but I had to.

As I may have mentioned, the roomie and I are trying to cut costs, so we have not turned the heat on yet. We are going to try to hold out til Nov. 1. (my fingers and toes are numb as I sit here and type)

The HeatDish has changed my life, and can change yours too. For only $50 at Costco! Thanks Mom!

Homecoming & Skechers

I got up pretty darn early in the morning on Saturday to travel to KSU to see the Cat's get whooped. It was not all that bad, but the loss was. I headed over to SG1's house and picked her up, and her sis, SG2 and her fiance DJ. We broke up the drive by stopping at their parents new house in rural Topeka. We tried some new cinnamon rolls (marinated in vanilla ice cream), and egg strata. Both were delicious.

We then continued West on 70 to exit 313. We arrived at the stadium with 7 minutes til kickoff, so we got to see the band and some pregame. 56 points were scored in the first quarter, yep, the first quarter. We ended up leaving at halftime, the score was that bad. I am not real sure what the final score was, but I know we lost bad. The only part that makes me feel good is that KU lost worse.

While the SG's went to eat lunch with their parents, I decided to go see my bff BS. It was great to see her at Porter's. We sat and talked and caught up. I miss her!

Today was spent mowing the lawn, well, not really the lawn, but the leaves. By this evening the lawn was covered with more leaves and sticks. I give up, for a few days. Also, my roomie MG and I have decided to try to hold off til Nov 1 to turn on the heat, but I am not real sure if we will be able to do it. It is pretty darn chilly.
In other news, tomorrow I start a new job. I will be serving/bartending at on the Country Club Plaza. When I got the job I was informed that I needed to have a pair of black non-slip shoes before I can start. I did not want to delay the paychecks, so I went to Off Broadway shoes today and am ready to announce that I now own a pair of Skechers. Yes, that's right, I said it. I do promise to NEVER wear them to work out. That was one of my pet peeves when working out at the rec in college, girls wearing Skechers. I just want to shake them and tell them they are not good workout shoes.

Stay tuned for crazy stories that I know will come from dealing with the restaurant public!

Holiday Mart

I went to the Junior League Holiday Mart this evening with SG1 and her sister, SG2. SG1 is a member of Junior League and had free tickets. I have heard about this event for years, but this was my first time attending.

Some things I noticed: Lots of scarves, lots of embellished denim, lots of monogram onesies, lots of wilton/silver serving trays in any shape you could ever want, and lots of food samples.

A note on the food samples. You would think that with a life threatening pepper allergy, I would learn to be a bit careful when eating samples. Normally that is the case, but not tonight. I was making my way down the dip line with my pretzel sticks (no double dipping). I dipped into something with a definite pepper in it. I immediately pulled $2 out of my pocket and offered it to the man in the booth in exchange for a bottle of water out of the package he had. He did not take the money, and gave me the water. I downed it in 30 seconds. No allergic reaction, thank God!

Also, this evening I jumped SG1's car. SG1's man came to help us jump it, and we hooked everything up correctly. No start. SG1 called her insurance company and they sent a tow truck. We went to dinner at the Salty Iguana down the street and SG'1s man met the tow truck driver. SG1's man came back to dinner with the keys to the Jetta and the news that the tow truck driver got it jumped and started. Interesting.

Off to bed, I am planning on making a trip out west tomorrow. To the old stomping grounds. Back to relive the Glory Days, in a little place called Manhattan! Go State!

Also, I got a job today...more on that in the next post!

"I used to be a professional ice skater"

I've decided to enter this blogging world. Lots of people are doing it, so why not hop on the bandwagon?

I figured tonight would be the perfect night to start. Why? Well, it all started last night when JG called and said, "LP, I have something we have to do tomorrow. I just drove by a house with a sign for tarot card readings for $10."
I figured I did not have anything to lose (except $10). JG and I visited a pyschic and tarot card reader 10 years ago in Bangkok and that lady told us that JG was going to get married in 5 years, well, 10 years have passed and neither of us are married. That brings me to this evening when I picked JG up at a local watering hole and we were on our way. We drove up to the tarot card house and knocked on the door. A man answered the door and said Angela, the psychic, was not home, she was at her office in Westport. He called to make sure she was still there, and we were on our way. I told JG that she must be good if she has satellite locations. We headed to Westport and walked up the long stairway to learn our future. Angela, the psychic, was very welcoming and asked us if we wanted to see her privately. We opted out and went together, for separate readings. JG shuffled and went first.

What we learned:

JG is an old soul, should be in the medical field, should have 3 children, is going to come into some money, has a bright future and a long, healthy life ahead of her and will meet someone and get married in the next 1-2 yrs!

I learned that I have a guardian angel looking over me and it is my grandmother (that was pretty dead on), I will have twins, I used to be a man in a previous life (wtf), I am at a crossroad right now, I will be coming into some money sometime soon, I am athletic and in a past life I was a professional ice skater and I will also meet someone and be married in the next 1-2 years.

JG feel free to add anything that may have been left out.

We decided we will go back in a month for another reading and psychic session. Who knows if we will have time to fit it in between the wedding planning and everything else! You can count on a blog post about our next visit which we will make before Thanksgiving.

Side note: Angela the psychic also does private parties.
